Highlighting the apathy of the society, a video has surfaced on Twitter in which a woman is sitting on the floor in the metro while others are sitting on the passenger seats.
 

वीडियो से ऐसा लग रहा है कि किसी ने महिला को सीट ऑफर नहीं की और उसे फर्श पर बैठना पड़ा। इस बीच, अन्य यात्री अपनी सीटों पर आराम से बैठे हैं, लेकिन महिला के लिए कोई भी दया नहीं है। वीडियो को आईएएस अधिकारी अवनीश शरण ने ट्विटर पर शेयर किया। इस वीडियो को शेयर करते हुए आईएएस अधिकारी ने कैप्शन में लिखा, 'आपकी डिग्री सिर्फ एक कागज का टुकड़ा है, अगर वो आपके व्यवहार में ना दिखे।'

From the video, it seems that no one offered a seat to the woman and she had to sit on the floor. Meanwhile, the other passengers are sitting comfortably in their seats, but with no pity for the woman. The video was shared by IAS officer Avneesh Sharan on Twitter. Sharing this video, the IAS officer wrote in the caption, 'Your degree is just a piece of paper, if it is not visible in your behavior.'

इस वीडियो ने ट्विटर पर हंगामा मचा दिया है। कई लोगों ने कहा कि आजकल लोगों को अपने साथियों के लिए कोई दया नहीं है। भारतीय कवि और पत्रकार प्रीतिश नंदी ने भी वीडियो पर प्रतिक्रिया व्यक्त की और लिखा, 'हम कोलकाता में पले-बढ़े हैं, हमेशा खड़े रहना और अपनी सीट (बस या ट्राम में) एक महिला को देना सिखाया, भले ही महिला का बच्चा हो, बुजुर्ग या जवान हो या फिर कोई दिव्यांग। इसे हमारे समय में शिष्टाचार कहा जाता था।'

This video has created an uproar on Twitter. Many people said that nowadays people have no compassion for their comrades. Indian poet and journalist Pritish Nandy also reacted to the video and wrote, 'We grew up in Kolkata, always taught to stand up and give our seat (in bus or tram) to a woman, even if the woman has a child, Be it old or young or any handicapped. This was called etiquette in our times.'

एक व्यक्ति ने कहानी का दूसरा पक्ष साझा करते हुए कहा कि यह एक पुराना वीडियो है। यह पहले स्पष्ट किया गया था कि महिला को कई लोगों द्वारा सीट की पेशकश की गई थी, लेकिन उसने मना कर दिया और फर्श पर बैठना पसंद किया क्योंकि इससे उसे गोद में बच्चे के साथ आराम मिला। एक अन्य यूजर ने भी यही दृष्टिकोण पेश किया और कमेंट बॉक्स में लिखा, 'लेकिन हमें कैसे पता चलेगा कि यात्री उसे सीट की पेशकश नहीं करते हैं? तस्वीरें सब सच नहीं बताती हैं। शायद मां जमीन में अधिक आराम से बैठी हो और उस स्थिति में सीट पर बैठने से मना कर दिया? मुझे अब भी लगता है कि मानवता बनी हुई है और कम से कम एक व्यक्ति ने सीट की पेशकश जरूर की होगी।'
 

People made different claims after watching the video
A person sharing the other side of the story said that it is an old video. It was clarified earlier that the woman was offered a seat by several people, but she declined and preferred to sit on the floor as it made her comfortable with the baby in her lap. Another user offered the same view and wrote in the comment box, 'But how do we know if the passengers don't offer him a seat? Photos don't tell all the truth. Maybe the mother is sitting more comfortably on the ground and refuses to sit on the seat in that position? I still feel that humanity has survived and at least one person must have offered the seat.
