After joining Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, Dilip Joshi shared how he has known producer Asit Kumar Modi since his college days. Seeing that he was aware of his acting potential, Modi did not even audition the actor but gave him the option of playing either Jethalal or Champaklal in the show. “He said that I can pull off both and thus make my choice. I did not believe in Champak and hence I chose the firstborn.Even this character was quite different from what we had read in Taarak Mehta's column. Asit ji conceptualized and designed Champak in a very different light, and set the show in a society rather than a chawl. And the best part was that he got the right actors for each part. He believes that when someone addresses him as Jethalal it makes him believe that he is doing a good job.

Citing reasons like 'no fresh content' and 'forced humour', many have demanded that the show should be scrapped now. Sharing that creating content is not in his hands, Dilip Joshi said that the team is still trying to give its best. He said, "I am an actor and I try to do justice to the script I have got.He said, “I am an actor and I try to do justice to the script I have got. We all work hard every day.
