उन्होंने कहा, अगर उन्होंने सिर्फ द्रौपदी, पांडवों और कौरवों का जिक्र किया होता, तो हमें कोई आपत्ति नहीं होती। लेकिन बीजेपी कार्यकर्ता होने के नाते हम राम गोपाल वर्मा की ऐसी टिप्पणियों से आहत हैं, क्योंकि द्रौपदी मुर्मू एनडीए की राष्ट्रपति पद की उम्मीदवार हैं।
If he had only mentioned Draupadi, Pandavas and Kauravas, we would not have had any objection, he said. But as BJP workers we are hurt by such remarks of Ram Gopal Varma as Draupadi Murmu is NDA's presidential candidate.
विवाद होने के बाद रामगोपाल वर्मा ने सफाई पेश करते हुए कहा कि 'यह सिर्फ एक गंभीर विडंबना में कहा गया था और इसका कोई अन्य इरादा नहीं था ..महाभारत में द्रौपदी मेरा पसंदीदा पात्र है, लेकिन क्योंकि ये नाम इतना दुर्लभ है, इसलिए मुझे इससे जुड़े अन्य पात्रों याद आ गए। मेरा मकसद किसी की भावनाओं को ठेस पहुंचाने का बिल्कुल नहीं है।
